I am the guy in the office that you are worried about talking to the customers, because you think too much geek verbiage will come out of his mouth. Yet, with over 20 years of customer relations in 4 different jobs, you are pleasantly surprised the geek verbiage is toned down and he is very customer focused.
I am also the guy in the office that attends several software/computer user groups and conferences on his own time, at night and on the weekends. As well as giving presentations on varies topics at some of these events. I help run a local .Net user group in my town, and helped organize a code camp for over 150 people. I have been into computers and software development since I was in the 8th grade, where I learned to program in Apple Basic. Then I took 3 year long classes programming in COBOL, C and Pascal while in high school. I earned my BS in Statistics in college and also took several classes for programming in C and SAS.
I maintain a large collection of software and computer related books. Not that I have read all of them , but most of the iOS books I have. I am venturing into the world of web development, and I have found the videos on Teamtreehouse and w3schools websites very helpful, along with the books written by the group at abookapart. I also use several other sites listed on my Learning page to stay up to date.
